With record level problems with alcohol and drug abuse, an extremely high suicide rate and crumbling playgrounds on every reservation, the monolithic task of bringing community involvement back to the reservations seemed an insurmountable goal. Things had gotten so bad it had become difficult to even find residents of the reservations themselves who were willing to help. But then they met Bob and Russ and learned how infectious enthusiasm can be! |

The RRP coordinated a reservation trip to watch the Canaries play baseball in 2007. The intent was to generate interest in the sport of baseball and the result was phenomenal as the kids met the players and realized that there WERE people in the world who cared about them. This kickoff event not only raised the spirits of the kids, it established a level of trust in the RRP that has allowed us to accomplish miracles in the 3 short years that have followed.
The RRP directly helped establish two new baseball leagues (little league and t-ball) on the Rosebud Reservation in 2009. From 2 little league teams there are now 26 teams. Also in 2009, RRP helped sponsor, direct and coach the first baseball clinic on the Rosebud. It was held for t-ball and little leaguers.
RRP started two little league teams in Wamblee on the Pine Ridge Reservation in 2009.
RRP supplied the equipment and the encouragement to start outdoor soccer in Mission on the Rosebud in 2009.
RRP was at the core of the development and installation of a new children’s playground in Mission at the White Buffalo Calf Society’s domestic abuse shelter in 2007. The pictures on our home page show another success when the first ever complete playground was erected in Parmelee in 2009. Special thanks to the Larson Foundation for a total of $60,000 in grants and also the Premier Recreation Products Corporation for the special deals and assistance.
RRP donated approximately 400 fishing rods and reels to various communities on 2 reservations for fishing tournaments in 2009.
RRP delivered 1000 plush toys for Christmas, 2009, to the Tree of Life Ministry in Mission and Ft. Thompson.
RRP delivered hundreds of mattresses and stoves in cooperation with the Peddlers 3 non-profit organization.
